Job DescriptionFull-time Open Rank Assistant or Associate Professor, Operative Dentistry & Cariology, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry
The University of Maryland School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the Division of Operative Dentistry& Cariology, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. We are seeking dynamic, enthusiastic candidates with a strong commitment to dental education and a collaborative spirit. Ideal applicants will demonstrate a positive attitude toward teaching and a desire to grow professionally within academic dentistry.
Position Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to both preclinical and clinical instruction in Operative Dentistry. Approximately 60-80% of the role will be dedicated to teaching, with the remaining time allocated to scholarly activities, service, and professional development.
Key Duties Include:
Teaching preclinical and clinical courses in restorative dentistry, with a focus on operative dentistry for DDS students.
Serving as course director and instructor for one or more core or elective courses, including course development and student mentoring.
Supporting student learning, development, and decision-making to promote academic success and well-being.
Collaborating with faculty to enhance teaching strategies and improve student outcomes.
Participating in scholarly activities within and beyond the department.
Engaging in departmental, school, and university committees, meetings, and community service.
Maintaining a professional development plan that includes research or other scholarly pursuits.
Conducting or contributing to dental research initiatives.
Supervising undergraduate or graduate student research projects as needed.
Demonstrating innovation in curriculum development and/or continuing education.
Contributing to the professional community through peer review, grant panels, and participation in national/international conferences.
Exhibiting strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, with a clear commitment to teaching and scholarship.
Responding to assignments from the Chair of Comprehensive Dentistry and the Dean of the School of Dentistry to support departmental and school operations.
Demonstrating teamwork in planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- DDS/DMD degree or foreign equivalent.
- Eligibility for dental licensure in the State of Maryland.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills, diplomacy, adaptability, and motivation.
- Organizational skills and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with operative dentistry residency, master's, and Ph.D. degrees in a related content area, strong record of publications and scientific accomplishment, and dental educational research experience.
- Ability to provide evidence of excellent university-level teaching and significant publications An understanding of initial considerations for restoration of single-tooth edentulism via implant dentistry and clinical experience with digital dentistry applications and workflow to include intraoral image acquisition and CAD/CAM of single-tooth restorations.

Hiring range: $135,000 - $165,000 per year (depending on academic rank and commensurate with education and experience).
