Description
The position is within the Analytical Development group / Mass Spectrometry team and reports to the Team Lead. The incumbent will be responsible for using mass spectrometry for the characterization and quantification of products in support of all vaccine and monoclonal antibody development.
Responsibilities include:
- Setting up new methods and maintaining mass spectrometers (timsTOF Flex, Orbitrap Q Exactive, Xevo G2-XS, Sciex 6500, and Microflex).
- Supporting project characterization, investigations, and troubleshooting.
- Extensive interaction with AD group members and cross-functional collaboration with upstream, downstream, and formulation development teams.
- Significant contribution to the clinical development of various vaccine and biologic candidates. Monoclonal antibodies include those targeting infectious diseases such as COVID-19, HIV, Influenza, and Malaria. Recombinant protein vaccine candidates include virus-like particles (VLPs) and nanoparticles.
The incumbent will work independently within project teams to:
- Design, develop, and optimize analytical assays.
- Innovatively establish new qualitative and quantitative mass spectrometry methods.
- Potentially lead development of other chromatography or immunoassay methods.
- Support projects through presentations and cutting-edge scientific investigations.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, which is highly encouraged.
Requirements
A thorough understanding of protein and process analysis, with experience in quantitative and qualitative protein assay development, is required. Knowledge and experience in developing and qualifying assays is highly desirable.
The candidate will collaborate with research labs on the main campus and interact with the VRC pilot plant QC group for product release and characterization. Prior experience in cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams, especially within matrix management environments, is preferred. Strong documentation skills are essential.
This position requires close coordination with other team members, as most projects involve significant teamwork. Therefore, the candidate must be a team player who can effectively collaborate with research, development, and cGMP personnel.
EDUCATION
PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry or related disciplines with relevant years of experience and capabilities. Have track records to demonstrate subject expertise.
BENEFITS
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with industry standards and experience.
