Description
Position Summary
The Glaucoma Specialist is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist responsible for providing comprehensive medical and surgical management of glaucoma patients across VED's Washington, DC and Rockville locations. This physician will help build practice's glaucoma subspecialty service line, working collaboratively with comprehensive ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinical staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered eye care and to support referral development across VED's network of offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with glaucoma and related ocular conditions
- Perform glaucoma surgical procedures (e.g., trabeculectomy, tube shunt implantation, MIGS, laser procedures) as clinically indicated
- Manage a full clinical schedule across the DC and Rockville locations, including new patient consults, post-operative care, and follow-up visits
- Collaborate with comprehensive ophthalmologists and optometrists within VED to receive and manage internal referrals
- Partner with practice leadership and the marketing/business development team to support external referral relationships with optometrists and other referring providers
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with practice and regulatory standards
- Participate in quality assurance, patient safety, and MIPS/regulatory compliance initiatives as required
- Engage in continuing medical education and maintain board certification/licensure requirements
- Represent VED professionally in the community, including potential participation in referral development, patient education, or CE events
Requirements
Education & Training
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency program
- Fellowship training in glaucoma
Licensure & Certification
- Board Certified or eligible in ophthalmology
- Active or eligible for medical licensure in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia
- DEA registration as required
